What is yoga?

Originated in ancient India, Yoga typically means ‘union’ between the mind, body and spirit. It involves the practice of physical postures and poses, which is sometimes referred to as ‘asana’ in Sanskrit. As the name suggests, the ultimate aim of practicing Yoga is to create a balance between the body and the mind and to attain self-enlightenment. In order to accomplish it, Yoga makes use of different movements, breathing exercises, relaxation technique and meditation. Yoga is associated with a healthy and lively lifestyle with a balanced approach to life.

In the present time, more and more people, are resorting to Yoga to find cure for chronic health problems and attain a peace of mind. They are also curious about knowing what exactly is Yoga and what are included in it. Although many of us are well aware of the heath benefits of the physical activity, not every one knows about the origin and exact definition of Yoga. It is a popular belief that Yoga merely includes stretching and warm up exercises.

I’m new to yoga. How do I get started?

There are two ways for beginners to take classes at Lullaby Yoga Studio:

  • Come in and take any of our “ALL LEVELS”  yoga classes.  It is perfect for people who need a variety of schedule options but still want the consistency of step-by-step instruction regardless of the teacher. Beginner can also attend classes marked as LEVEL I on the schedule.
  • Kick start a new yoga habit with an Unlimited 1-Month Package. This is especially good for people who want to make a commitment to a new yoga practice and grow with a single teacher and a group of like-minded beginners.
Can I do yoga if I have health concerns or limitations?

In many cases, yes.

In fact, for certain conditions, yoga may even be therapeutic.

Inform your teacher of your concerns and limitations before the class begins. All of Lullaby Yoga teachers are highly trained and experienced in modifying poses to meet each students needs. The teacher is there to help you find your way in the yoga practice so that you are always practicing safely and comfortably within a range that is most appropriate for you.

Our goal is to teach you a system of yoga that is flexible and adaptable, able to be adjusted to meet your needs on any given day, at any point in your life.

I’ve been doing another form of yoga. What level class should I go to?

Probably ALL LEVELS

Different forms of yoga may share ideas and perspectives but there are differences as well. To truly learn each style of the class provides at Lullaby Yoga, you should begin with ALL LEVELS, regardless of your level in another methodology.

There are some exceptions, based on the students’ specific experience. If you’re unsure, ask a Lullaby Yoga Instructor. Having a better sense of your practice will help the teacher direct you to the appropriate level.
